ARTLOG Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use ARTLOG on iPhone or iPad.
ARTLOG is designed as a private artwork documentation application. It does not require an ARTLOG account, does not contain advertising, does not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers, and does not operate a developer-controlled server or online database containing users' ARTLOG records.
Privacy summary
ARTLOG does not sell user information, does not use information for advertising or profiling, and does not track users across apps or websites. ARTLOG records are stored on the user's device and, when iCloud synchronisation is available and used, in the user's private Apple iCloud/CloudKit database.
1. Data collected by the developer
Jake Moss does not operate a server that receives or stores users' ARTLOG artwork databases, photographs, attached documents or other ARTLOG records. ARTLOG does not transmit this user content to servers controlled by Jake Moss.
ARTLOG does not collect user information for advertising, marketing, profiling or analytics. ARTLOG does not use advertising identifiers and does not track users across apps, websites or services.
ARTLOG does not require users to provide a name, email address, telephone number or other identifying information to create an ARTLOG account, because ARTLOG does not have an ARTLOG account system.
2. Information users choose to store in ARTLOG
Users can voluntarily enter or import information into ARTLOG in order to catalogue artworks and use the app's features. Depending on how ARTLOG is used, this information may include:
- artwork photographs and other artwork images;
- artist names and artwork titles;
- year, artwork type, medium, dimensions and edition information;
- sale status, prices, currencies and acquisition information;
- artwork locations and location details;
- exhibition history;
- notes, collections and folders;
- artist profile information entered by the user;
- collector information entered by the user;
- signatures used for certificates of authenticity;
- documents or files the user chooses to attach or import; and
- other information the user voluntarily records in ARTLOG.
This information is used only to provide the ARTLOG features selected by the user. ARTLOG does not use this information for advertising, marketing or profiling.
3. Local device storage
ARTLOG stores working data within the app's private storage on the user's device. This allows ARTLOG to function without a developer-operated user account or hosted database.
When a user adds an artwork image or supported file, ARTLOG may create and store its own copy for use within the app. Deleting the original photograph or file from the Photos app or another location does not necessarily delete the copy stored by ARTLOG.
4. iCloud and CloudKit synchronisation
ARTLOG uses Apple's iCloud and CloudKit services to synchronise ARTLOG data between compatible Apple devices when iCloud is available for ARTLOG.
Synchronised ARTLOG information is stored in the user's private CloudKit database associated with the user's Apple Account. Depending on the content stored in ARTLOG, synchronised information can include artwork records, collections, profile information, images, signatures and attached files.
ARTLOG uses CloudKit for the purpose of private synchronisation and does not use it to create a publicly accessible ARTLOG database or social network. ARTLOG does not send a copy of the user's ARTLOG database to a separate server controlled by Jake Moss.
iCloud and CloudKit are Apple services. Information processed by Apple in connection with those services is subject to Apple's terms, privacy policies and security practices. Users can read Apple's privacy information at Apple Privacy.
Data stored using iCloud may count towards the user's iCloud storage allowance.
5. Camera, Photos and Files permissions
ARTLOG may request access to device features only when needed for functions selected by the user.
- Camera: used when the user chooses to photograph an artwork or other permitted content for ARTLOG.
- Photos: used when the user chooses images from the device's photo library to add to ARTLOG.
- Files: used when the user chooses to import, open, save, back up, restore or export supported ARTLOG files and documents.
These permissions are used to perform the action requested by the user. Granting ARTLOG access to the camera, Photos or Files does not cause the contents of those services to be sent to Jake Moss.
Camera and Photos permissions can be changed or withdrawn at any time through the privacy settings on the user's iPhone or iPad.
6. Imports, backups, exports and sharing
ARTLOG allows users to import information and to deliberately create, export or share files. Depending on the feature used, this may include .artlog backup or transfer files, PDF catalogues, spreadsheets, certificates of authenticity and other supported documents.
ARTLOG does not automatically send these files to another person or organisation. When the user chooses a system saving or sharing destination, such as Files, AirDrop, Mail, Messages or another app, the selected information is provided to the destination chosen by the user.
After information is exported or shared outside ARTLOG, its handling may also be governed by the privacy practices of the recipient, service or app selected by the user.
7. Advertising, analytics and tracking
ARTLOG does not:
- display third-party advertising;
- use advertising networks;
- use third-party analytics SDKs to monitor users;
- use user information for targeted advertising;
- track users across apps or websites;
- sell or rent personal information;
- sell or rent artwork records or images;
- create advertising or marketing profiles about users; or
- share ARTLOG user content with data brokers or marketing platforms.
8. Third-party services and data sharing
ARTLOG relies on Apple system services, including iOS, iPadOS, iCloud and CloudKit, where required to provide device functionality and private synchronisation.
ARTLOG does not integrate third-party advertising networks, third-party analytics services or data brokers that receive users' ARTLOG content.
If ARTLOG's practices change in the future and user data is shared with an additional service provider, this Privacy Policy will be updated. Any service provider given access to user data by ARTLOG will be required to protect that data consistently with this Privacy Policy and applicable privacy requirements.
9. Data retention and deletion
ARTLOG does not maintain a developer-controlled user account or developer-controlled server database containing users' ARTLOG records. Therefore, Jake Moss generally does not hold a separate server copy of a user's ARTLOG database that can be deleted on the user's behalf.
Users can delete individual records and information within ARTLOG using the app's available deletion functions.
Local ARTLOG data can also be removed by deleting ARTLOG and its locally stored data from the device, subject to Apple's iOS and iPadOS data-management behaviour.
Where ARTLOG information has been synchronised using iCloud, deletions made through ARTLOG may also be synchronised through CloudKit. Users can also manage ARTLOG's access to iCloud and data associated with their Apple Account using Apple's iCloud settings and data-management tools.
Deleting ARTLOG from one device does not necessarily delete information that remains in the user's iCloud account, on another synchronised device, or in backup/export files the user previously created.
Exported .artlog files, PDFs, spreadsheets and other files are controlled by the user after export and must be deleted separately from wherever the user chose to save or share them.
10. Privacy choices and withdrawing permissions
Users remain in control of permissions granted to ARTLOG. Camera and Photos permissions can be changed or revoked in iOS or iPadOS settings. iCloud access can be managed through Apple's iCloud settings.
Users can choose not to import, export or share information. Information already shared with another person, service or app is no longer under ARTLOG's control.
Questions about privacy choices, deletion or ARTLOG data handling can be sent to yo@jakemoss.net.
11. Security
ARTLOG is designed to minimise unnecessary collection and transmission of user information. Local information is stored within ARTLOG's application environment, and iCloud synchronisation is handled using Apple's CloudKit infrastructure.
No method of electronic storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Users should protect access to their device and Apple Account and should keep appropriate backups of important ARTLOG records.
12. Children's privacy
ARTLOG does not knowingly collect personal information from children for advertising, analytics, profiling or any developer-operated user database. ARTLOG does not provide public profiles, social networking or user-to-user messaging.
13. Changes to this Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated if ARTLOG's functionality, services or data-handling practices change. The revised policy will display an updated "Last updated" date.
Where required, material changes to ARTLOG's privacy practices will also be reflected in the privacy information supplied through the App Store.
14. Contact and support
For privacy questions, app issues, general feedback, feature requests or assistance with ARTLOG, contact:

Because ARTLOG does not maintain developer-controlled user accounts or a developer-held copy of users' ARTLOG databases, requests about deletion of locally stored or private iCloud data may require the user to remove that information from ARTLOG, the device or the user's Apple Account. Support can be requested at the email address above.
